N1, the first regional 24 hour news network for the Adria region, is set to launch to an audience of over 15 million people across Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia in early 2014.
The network has signed an affiliate agreement with Turner Broadcasting System Europe Limited, parent company of CNN International that makes N1 the exclusive news channel affiliate of CNN in the region.
N1 will operate through three major news production centers in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb with smaller “news hubs” located in cities across the region.
“By affiliating with CNN the N1 network can draw on a wealth of global experience in the fields of newsgathering and program making,” said CEO and Network News Director Brent Sadler, a former CNN award-winning journalist. “But N1 will develop its own unique content within the region for the region from three capitals at the same time. It's an exhilarating approach.”
In a regional first, N1 also has the option of translating selected CNN programming and news into localized languages.
“This agreement underscores our commitment to growing and expanding the CNN affiliate business and signifies the importance of this dynamic region from a news perspective. It enables us to deliver on our goal of supporting local news operations with training and consultancy expertise and we’re delighted that N1 is joining the CNN fold. We look forward to working with the N1 team,” commented Rani Raad, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, CNN International. The main financial investor behind the N1 venture is United Group, the leading pay TV platform in South East Europe, including Telemach Slovenia and Telemach BiH, the largest cable operators in Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, SBB, the largest cable operator in Serbia, along with Total TV, the largest satellite platform in the SEE region. “We are excited to be a part of the creation of this venture,” said Cameron Munter, Senior Adviser to United Group. “It is an important milestone on the integration of this region into the EU and its high standards of specialized channel 24 hour news reporting.”
N1 will offer vibrant, informative and compelling content to viewers. “Our cutting-edge technology and teams of dedicated professionals will establish our credentials and our reputation,” said Network News Director, Sadler. “N1 will stand for reliable news 24 hours a day.”
